Greetings to all my friends in the Blogosphere. This research project exposed me to the basics of ecological research with biomedical applications and thanks to that great experience; I have developed a special interest in biomedical research and began studying more about current research in biomedical sciences.
Pursuing this endeavor, I participated on a workshop named “Nanotechnology: Active learning experiences for undergraduates” that was hosted by the Minority Access to Research Careers Program from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences. From that experience, I was determined to continue studying the biomedical applications of these nanostructures for the development of techniques to prevent and treat diseases. As recently as this past summer, I joined a team from the Chemical Engineering Department of the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez on the study of biomedical applications of magnetic nanoparticles in cancer treatment. I will study and characterize the transport mechanisms used by cancer cells to move magnetic nanoparticles through the cell membrane.
